Opening of Building on 29 March 2015

The institutional opening of the Arquipélago – Contemporary Arts Centre included the presence and speeches by the Director of the Centre, the Regional Director of Culture, the Regional Secretary of Education and Culture, and the President of the Regional Government.

For this event, the Centre invited artist/film director Pedro Sena Nunes to create three films as a filmic object that were shown in the three exhibition rooms. In the reserves, Pedro Sena Nunes presented a mini documentary that introduced the space and staff.

This event equally featured a presentation by the project architects (João Mendes Ribeiro, Cristina Guedes and Francisco Vieira de Campos), followed by a tour of the building.

The outdoor pathway included a carpet of flowers, a typical ornament of Azorean religious celebrations prepared by the Conceição Parish Council.

This opening moment ended with the concert ‘Medeiros/Lucas’, an Azorean experimental music project.
