The artists Mike Cooter and Tomás Cunha Ferreira are in the ARQUIPÉLAGO – Contemporary Art Center for 15 days of Artistic Residency, within the scope of the project “Sonic Geometry”. The works developed will be part of the 2nd Exhibition Cycle of this project, which will start on October 27th.

Mike Cooter’s work investigates the structural agency of objects, be they sculpture, cinematic props or other anthropological artefacts – objects co-opted or created to drive narratives, fictional or otherwise. Working primarily with installation and drawing on the history of cinema as a cue for archival research, Cooter’s interdisciplinary practice also resolves into text, radio production and curatorial projects. He has lectured widely, written on the history of exhibitions and recently completed a PhD at Goldsmiths, London on MacGuffins – mysterious narrative drivers emerging from film and literary history. His work has been included in recent exhibitions at the Swiss Institute (New York), Stroom Den Haag (The Hague), the 31^st Biennial of Graphic Arts (Ljubljana), Boghossian Foundation / Villa Empain (Brussels), Tenderpixel (London) and Witte de With (Rotterdam). Tomás Cunha Ferreira lives and works in Lisbon. In his work, the artist combines various supports, in a cross-border and open circuit practice. Recent projects include shows at Factor Cavalo – Bienal de Cerveira 2017 / Verbivocovisual – Concrete, Visual and Experimental Portuguese Poetry at ZDB, Lisbon 2017 / Ontemporâneo at CIAJG, Guimarães 2016 / Partitura – at O Armário, Lisbon 2016. His practice extends to teaching, radio, writing and music.
